Ceiling holes can be really unsightly. That’s why it’s a good idea to get them fixed before your guests pop in. We’ll show you how to fix small holes in your ceiling all by yourself. Don’t stress it – it’s EASY. Just follow our instructions carefully.
For holes which are less than an inch wide:
Step 1 – Use a putty knife to fill the hole with vinyl spackling.
Step 2 – Wipe off the excess vinyl with a cloth and let it try entirely.
Step 3 – Smooth the surface of the ceiling by sanding the patched hole with a fine-grit sanding block. Wipe the sanding dust off with a clean cloth.
Step 4 – Use a small paintbrush to paint the patched hole in the ceiling.
For holes which are more than one inch wide, but less than 12 inches wide:
Step 1 – Use the putty knife to scrape away 2 inches past the perimeter of the hole.
Step 2 – Take the knife and apply drywall compound around the hole.
Step 3 – Use scissors to cut plastic meshing material and ensure that it extends an inch past the perimeter of the hole.
Step 4 – Fit the plastic over the hole and press the plastic’s ends into the wet compound, then apply a thin layer of the compound over the plastic. Let it dry fully.
Step 5 – Smooth the patched area with a fine-grit sanding block and wipe it off with a clean cloth.
Step 6 – Use a spray can of texture to add texture to the patched area and let it dry fully.
Step 7 – Use a spray can of primer to the area and let it dry completely.
Step 8 – Apply two coats of ceiling paint to the area.
